Comment from Mike in Maine: What this is is nothing more than company political influence on the State PUC level finally get called what it is. Collusion in the name of 'Public Service' . Please, who's kidding who here ? The various telecom's all have their 'guy' or 'gal' sitting on the various States PUC's, setting rates and making sure that no other company 'poach's' on their territory. By being the only provider, in essence a State sanctioned monopoly, the telecoms get a free ride in setting rates as high as they can with no real fear of being found out and penalized. Broadband service is a huge threat to their landline and cellular services. By getting the various State PUC's to fight the FCC, these same companies are using the public purse to lobby Congress for a special exemption for their price-fixing schemes. So much for public oversight of the Public UtilitySector ! . . . (emphasis added) Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/63527_Page2.html#ixzz1Y3okKUD9
